Mathematics University was started when Florida had its last mathematics textbook adoption. After doing presentations in all 67 counties in Florida for a reform mathematics product, Matt McManus discovered that there was something missing in the textbook choices. All the textbooks seemed to cover the standards for Florida properly, but only one or two actually made the teachers do a paradigm shift to start thinking like their students.
As the textbook results of the counties started filing in, it was obvious that most counties were going with traditional mathematics series. Most counties made it clear that the teachers were not quite ready to have a hands-on mathematical approach thrown at them. There needed to be an intermediary, yet there wasn't one in print.
After performing a few workshops for some counties in Florida, Matt McManus realized that he needed to do a paradigm shift of his own. He needed to become the intermediary device that was missing during the textbook adoption. He became a living transition for the teachers towards a mathematical classroom full of active and engaing learning. After a few free workshops and through word of mouth, Mathematics University was created. All the counties who were offered the free workshops signed contracts immediately, one of them for over 15 days.

He has taught every grade K-8 one solid year. Matt has actually had a stint in some administrtaive positions as well. His well-rounded educational background helps him to see problems from the eyes of a teacher, student or parent. Matt has many stories to share based on real classroom experiences. Within 10 minutes of any workshop, his validity for the rest of the workshop is already clearly laid out and his vision of mathematics becomes an intense focus by all participants.

Always striving to solve the complex student classroom situations, Matt will literally walk into a workshop and tell the teachers that they can create the agenda.
